What you may not be so clear about is which educational path will actually take you where you want to go. This is where the Higher Degree in Music makes the difference compared to any other option.

In this article we explain exactly what this qualification is, who can access it, what the three specialisms you can choose at EUMES are and which career paths each opens up for you.

What exactly is the Higher Degree in Music?

The Higher Degree in Music is a state-recognised official qualification, equivalent for academic and professional purposes to a university degree. This means:

240 ECTS credits spread over 4 years of training.

Full academic recognition to access official master’s programmes.

Validity in any international industry within the European Higher Education Area.

The only musical qualification that gives you exactly the same status as a conventional university degree.

Who can access it? Entry requirements

To access the Higher Degree in Music you must meet two requirements:

Previous academic qualification: you must hold the Batxillerat (Spanish upper secondary) or equivalent, or have passed the access test for those over 25.

Specific entrance exams: each centre evaluates the candidate’s musical and creative skills through entrance tests. You do not need to come from a conservatoire or have a particular academic profile: your real potential is what counts.

At EUMES we support and prepare you so that you can pass the entrance exams successfully, whatever your starting point.

Career prospects: what you can become

Completing the Higher Degree in Music does not confine you to a single professional profile. On the contrary: it is one of the most transversal training programmes in the creative and technological sector.

Artistic and Production Area

Musical performer as a studio musician or in musical ensembles.

Music producer in studios for artists of any genre.

Composer of soundtracks for film, television, advertising and content platforms.

Sound designer for the video game industry and sound libraries.

Post-production and Sound Area

Recording, mixing and mastering engineer in recording studios.

Specialist in audio post-production and live sound engineering for events, festivals and world tours.

Designer of sound systems and immersive audio (Dolby Atmos).

Music Business and Management Area

Project director (A&R) at record labels and publishers.

Manager and strategic consultant for artists or large-scale events.

Music entrepreneur leading your own production company or label.

Which specialisms can you study?

At EUMES there isn’t a single Higher Degree in Music, but three specialities so you can orient your training according to your interests and where you want to get to.

Sonology: Degree in Music and Sound Production

Designed for those interested in sound from a technical and creative perspective: music production, sound engineering, audio technology and sound design applied to various professional environments.

Performance: Degree in Performance (Contemporary Music)

For musicians who want to deepen their instrument with a contemporary outlook. The focus is on practice, live performance and building a personal artistic language in personal and professional projects.

Composition: Degree in Composition and Musical Creation

Focused on musical creation for audiovisual projects: film, series, video games, advertising and digital formats. It integrates music and image to work in contemporary production environments.

What is the Higher Degree in Music like at EUMES?

EUMES is a Centre for Higher Artistic Education, and our Higher Degree has very specific characteristics that differentiate it from the traditional conservatoire model.

A curriculum oriented to the current industry

While traditional conservatoires focus mainly on the classical repertoire, our Higher Degree places contemporary music technology at the centre: electronic music, pop, urban music, sound design and digital production.

Professional recording studios as classrooms

You won’t learn in a simulated environment. You will work in studios equipped with the industry-standard software and hardware, the same you’ll find when you enter the market.

Access to international figures

Our programme includes tutorials and masterclasses with active professionals who have Grammy awards and are leading the sector globally. You learn from those who are really doing it, not from those who did it in the past.

Very limited places

To guarantee fully personalised attention, the number of places is limited. The call for the next academic year is already open.

The question you ask yourself: is it for me?

If you are passionate about music in any of its fields (creation, technology, business) and want a qualification that gives you the same opportunities as a university degree, the answer is yes: this Degree is for you.

The Higher Degree in Music is not for those who want to explore music as a hobby. It is for those who want to build a solid and competitive professional career.

You write the future of the music industry. We’ll be waiting for you.

Request more information about the Degree in Music

The Higher Degree in Music is the only musical qualification equivalent to a university degree.
