Interview with Xavi Ferrer, EUMES Diploma Student

Xavi Ferrer is a student in the EUMES Music Production Diploma who moved from Menorca to pursue his passion for music professionally.

If you’d like to get to know his experience better, keep reading.

Hi Xavi, tell us about your relationship with music.

I’ve always loved music. When I was little, my father would take me to concerts by the municipal band in Ciutadella, and I loved it. I’d always tell my father that one day I’d dedicate myself to music.

When did you decide to commit 100% to music?

Well, it was about a year ago that I decided to fully commit to music (composition and production). My parents and I started looking for places where I could learn professional production, but all we could find were sound engineering programs and vocational training, which didn’t really appeal to me. Then, one day, my father found the EUMES website online, and from the first moment, we got a great vibe. I’m now in my first year of the Advanced Music and Sound Diploma.

How’s your experience at EUMES?

My experience at EUMES isn’t very extensive since I just started this year, but from what I’ve experienced so far, it’s been great. All the subjects I’m taking are very important for becoming a producer, composer, or sound technician. I’m having a great time, and in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot, even more than I expected. The teachers are amazing – ALL of them. They explain things very well, making it much easier to understand, and you can tell they truly love and are passionate about music. It’s also cool that EUMES organizes masterclasses for students. For example, this week, every afternoon, there’s a masterclass from highly regarded people in the music world like Julio Navas, Rafa Sardina, and Marc Martin (who also teaches Logic here at EUMES).

What musical projects are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m working on the Remix Context competition (the EUMES contest with Intermezzo). I know the level is high, but you never know what might happen. We’re also preparing something for this Christmas with my band, 4moixos, where I’m in charge of production.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Phew! Honestly, NO IDEA. In five years, I’d like to be able to say that I’m working in music, being a good producer, composing soundtracks… doing what I love.
