We’re back with a new selection in the section dedicated to music producers’ favorite plugins. This time, Àlex del Amo reveals the tools he regularly uses to create his music and shape his productions.
1. Cubase Multiband Compressor
According to Àlex, this is the ultimate tool to add body and shape leads and lead layers.
It can be complex at first because it’s not always obvious what’s happening. Once mastered, it becomes like an EQ on steroids, with dynamic properties that allow extremely precise control of the sound.
2. Sonic Academy Kick
The number‑one instrument for creating kicks. This plugin lets you work the sound in two distinct layers: highs and lows.
The ability to import your own clicks opens up huge options for designing the perfect kick. Also, the low‑end pitch control makes it easy to fit the kick to the track’s key.
3. API 2500
Àlex uses this compressor on all his projects to apply parallel compression.
Working with very low level mixes and in pre‑fader mode, the plugin shows its full potential, adding punch and cohesion to the mix without losing dynamics.

4. FabFilter Pro-Q 2
For Àlex, this is the EQ that made him stop using many other EQs.
One feature he values most is the ability to display the note of frequencies (Pro‑Q 2), which greatly facilitates harmonic EQing in a musical context.
5. Spire
A 4×4 synthesizer that is essential in his productions. Spire allows him to recreate trance-style sounds with a more underground vibe that he doesn’t find in other synthesizers.
Although it could still improve with more advanced macro controls, it stands out especially in creating leads for chords, solo leads, plucks, and punchy basses, with great ease and character.
